For nearly a decade, Pittsburgh Brown Mamas has been connecting Black mothers in the Pittsburgh region via Facebook and it’s various programming. We are excited and honored to announce that Brown Mamas has been accepted into Facebook’s Community Accelerator Program.
Through this program, Brown Mamas will get access to custom, one-on-one training purposed with organizing and strengthening their communities, early access to Facebook products to help the activate and manager their communities and up to $50K in funding to help them activate community initiatives.
Brown Mamas is one of 129 groups chosen from across the globe to participate in this program. Over 13,000 communities applied for acceptance.
“We are honored to have a partner that understands that mixing online engagement with in-person connection creates an activated and close-knit community,” Founder and Executive Producer, Muffy Mendoza, said.
The expansion of the Brown Mama Monologues will be a huge part of how Brown Mamas plans to leverage it’s acceptance into the highly coveted program.
In addition to funding, networking and business coaching, the program guides community leaders to create impact in their communities offline. In 2022, Brown Mamas plans to hold a series of info sessions about the Brown Mama Monologues across the US.
“We really want to help other mothering communities understand why the show has been such a success in Pittsburgh and how it help women develop community, create identity and formulate a collective voice that can be a vehicle for social change in their homes and neighborhoods,” Mendoza said.
To date, 46 women from Pittsburgh and the DMV region have participated in the show.
