Cordelia Spence

“Frozen Memories”

Cordelia is a homeschool mom of 5, speaker, author, and self-proclaimed self-care enthusiast. When she is not helping Moms navigate their family, home, personal and professional lives, you can find Cordelia drinking tea out of pretty teacups, indulging in gratitude infused nature walks, jamming to Soca and 90’s music, baking her heart out, and kicking off impromptu dance parties with her five kiddos until they beg her to stop!

What is your monologue about?

The message of my monologue shows that it is possible to take back control of your life- no matter how far you may have gone from the life you’ve planned and imagined. It’s never too late to make a new decision, even if that means starting over from scratch. It may not be glamorous and it won’t always feel good, but in the end- you will know you made the best decision for you first- and in turn your children will benefit, you will thrive and truly live a life you desire and deserve. It is possible.

What do Black mothers need most right now in your opinion?

Right now I believe that Black mothers need to rest and reconnect with the sacredness of self care. This is not about pampering, but the healing work of loving and trusting ourselves so we know when to rest, ask for help, when to say “yes” and when to say “no.” The more we know about what fuels our spirit, energizes us and makes us feel good- the better we are able to take care of our children and shift the narrative of burnout as a parameter of worthiness. We were already born worthy and enough!

Where is your favorite place to go in the DMV?
