Monologue: Mom Guilt

Every single mom in the world has had mom guilt at one time or another.  Kiona William’s monologue will focus on this one, hard fact of #momlife.  Following Kiona on Facebook you’ll know that she’s one hilarious chick, but here monologue is a departure from her normally chill and light banter and a real dive into the not so cherry parts of her motherhood journey.  The good thing is, we’ve all been there.  You will definitely here “Amen” and “been there, done that” from the audience as you listen to Kiona’s monologue.  But before our Saturday, May 4th show here’s a chance to get to know her a little more.

Who is Kiona Williams?

Kiona is a wife and mother of 3 pursuing life long prosperity and happiness. She is a graduate of Clarion University and founder of The BELLA Project, a group focused on mentoring and the development of teenage girls.

When asked to sum up her monologue in 3 sentences or less Kiona said…

We are not perfect but we try to be. This monologue is me trying so hard to be the best that I’m consumed with guilt when I’m feeling inadequate and not feeling my best.

If her friends gave her a nickname it would be…

Kiyanla, Always Tryna Fix Someone’s Life

The best piece of advice Kiona’s has gotten about motherhood is…

God created everyone for a purpose. Your job is to raise them with the confidence to find it on their own.

Kiona’s favorite monologue in this year’s show is…

Leeann’s monologue. I cried true tears of joy for her and her son. Her story is a true example of God’s grace!

Kiona’s favorite song and least favorite song are…

Beyoncé Die With You is my favorite. Any song created by a mumble rapper is my least favorite.

What growth have you experienced being a part of the Brown Mama Monologues?

It has caused me to do a lot of self reflection and deep diving into emotions that I may not have been prepared for but it is all for the best!

Muffy Mendoza is a motivational speaker, author, tribe builder and overall awesome communicator. Most notably, Muffy is known for having cultivated a community of nearly 4,000 African-American moms hungry for social change when she noticed a lack of community among Black mothers in the Pittsburgh region. She created Brown Mamas, a sisterhood that connects moms with resources, advice and, best of all, each other. To further fill the void Muffy has created a line of educational products focused on helping Black moms be the best moms, too. Her first book, The Brown Mama Mindset: A Blueprint for Black Moms on Life, Love & Home, was featured at the 2018 Essence Festival and is currently sold in various cities across the U.S. Muffy champions the beauty of Black motherhood everywhere she goes, even on the TEDx stage. She received a standing ovation at the inaugural TEDx Strip District after giving a compelling depiction of modern day Black motherhood. From the TEDx stage she went on to create a stage for other Black moms. That same year she debuted the first annual Brown Mama Monologues showcase to an audience of over 200 moms. When she’s low-key, Muffy loves reading African history books, forcing her kids to watch most boring documentaries and snuggling with her best friend and husband Mr. Mack Mendoza.
